Working to Invade Your Privacy

Eric Cantor supports observing religious doctrine as law. He is in your bedroom.

Eric Cantor professes concern for the fetus, but opposes measures that would protect the fetus from brain- damaging chemicals.

Majority Leader Eric Cantor co-sponsored 32 abortion bills with Rep. Todd Akin (R-Missouri). Akin gained notoriety when he told a St. Louis news station that “legitimate rape” rarely causes pregnancy, saying, “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Eric Cantor’s PAC has provided money to Todd Akin in the past. Eric Cantor is a key proponent of Akin’s abortion-related bills. For example, he co-sponsored HR 3, a bill with Akin, which initially banned taxpayer funding for abortions with a rape exception, but only for “forcible rape.”

Eric Cantor’s and Todd Akin’s abortion votes show they are prepared to take extreme measures to invade the privacy of a family when the mother is a victim of a crime such as rape.

Eric Cantor even went so far as to vote to ban federal health coverage that includes abortion (May 2011) and against providing family planning funding in U.S. aid abroad. (May 2001)
